Relief Help for Hurricane Harvey Victims in Texas

If your church is not already in contact with a church in Texas we welcome your help with two that we can work with as an association of churches.

1.     First Baptist Church-Huffman

25503 FM 2100, Huffman, TX 77336

Pastor:  Mike Martin

Many of you remember Thomas and Linda Broadhead, former associate pastor/education minister at PSDBC.  Thomas and Linda live in Huffman, TX which is just north of Houston off  Interstate 10.  Their area was badly hit by Harvey but their church was spared and acts as a distribution center for the area.  They need hands on the ground Monday – Friday.  Their pastor, Mike Martin, told me he could easily walk to 100 homes in their immediate area that were flooded and folks lost everything.  They need teams to help with mud out and clean up. They need teams to help with serving meals every day, they need teams to help with the distribution of water, food, clean up supplies, etc.  They need folks who can simply visit and pray with victims. They were expecting to  house30 people at their church and the first night over 300 showed up!

I told Bro. Mike that we would try and get clean up supplies to them:  mops, brooms, Clorox, 409 and other cleaners, and any type of cleaning supplies you find they could use.  I would be glad to carry these to them in my truck or in a trailer towed behind my truck within the next two weeks.  Bring these items to your church or to the LBA office and we will be sure they get into the hands that need them.

This church will need our help over the next two years or so as they continue to minister to those who need to recover from the flooding.  Gift cards for $25 that could be used at WalMart or Lowes would also be appreciated.

Your Director of Missions will leave tomorrow, Tuesday, September 26th to carry the first load of supplies to Huffman, TX.  We will continue collecting supplies until early afternoon on Monday, September 25th if you would like to send something to Huffman.

2.      First Baptist Church, Vidor, TX    350 N Main St, Vidor, TX 77662

Pastor: Terry Wright

Part of this church was damaged by flooding but they have a place to stay for volunteers in the Educational Building.  They are asking for help with baby items: diapers, baby wipes, baby food, baby formula, baby blankets, etc. Many families with babies lost everything in the flooding.  Again, there are homes all around the church that lost everything they had.  Bro. Wade Ricks, FBC Collinsville knows this church well as it is his home church.  We will be planning on taking some teams there within the next two weeks.  If interested, give me a call here at the LBA office or give Bro. Wade a call at FBC Collinsville.

The LBA will begin to look for contacts in Florida where we can “plug in” and help.  Remember, the world will know us by the love we show for each other.  In times such as these let’s allow God’s love to really shine!

LBA Executive Board Meeting – Monday, October 2nd,   7pm. All pastors are members of the Executive Board for the LBA. It is the executive board that will approve most of the business that occurs in the association.  It is the executive board that will discuss the 2018 budget (it is presented at the annual meeting but without discussion).  Each church is allowed their pastor and one other member to be placed on this board!  Place the date and time on your calendar and try to be present for this important meeting.

LBA annual meeting will be Tuesday, October 24th, PSDBC.  Dr. Futrell will bring our annual message!  Mission fair will begin at 4:30 pm.  Annual meeting will begin at 6:30 pm and end at 7:30 pm approximately!  Make plans to attend!!!
